YAC Facts

Who is in YAC?

Students from every Gratiot County high school are encouraged to join! Tell your friends!

When do we meet and what do we do?

Meetings are just one Sunday each month during the school year with occasional meetings during the week to organize special events and service activities. There are lots of community service projects you can take part in such as raking leaves for the debilitated, cooking or serving at the Thanksgiving Community Café meal, and activities with residents at Masonic Pathways like the “Senior” Prom. At the end of the school year, we celebrate all or these acts of service at the annual Youth Talent Showcase!

What do we do besides community service?

YAC members have the opportunity to participate in philanthropy through the grant selection process, sponsored by the Gratiot County Community Foundation and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Grant applications that get sent in by other area youth are reviewed at YAC meetings to determine if they are to be recommended for funding.

Señora Kaufmann Memorial Scholarship

The Señora Kaufmann Memorial Scholarship was established in November 2020 by the family of Sally Kaufmann to honor her decades of service to teaching and continue her legacy in foreign language and education.  Señora Kaufmann’s passion for teaching Spanish and Hispanic culture, along with her special gift for connecting with her students and colleagues, made her a beloved educator.

Sally Kaufmann was dedicated to helping students further their education, achieve their goals, and literally explore the world.  She was a loyal confidant to countless students with whom she shared her wisdom and listened to their dreams. It is her family’s hope that the Señora Kaufmann Memorial Scholarship will assist Alma High School and other Gratiot County students pursue their passion in foreign language, travel, and international studies.
