Richard Thomas Van Haften Family Scholarship

 

Scholarship Information

 
 

Richard Thomas Van Haften was a man dedicated to family and community.  In honor of his memory, his wife, Charlene, and daughters established this scholarship to help Breckenridge High School students pursue their dreams of post-secondary education. 

2009 is the first year this scholarship has been awarded through the Community Foundation.  Because the scholarship fund is endowed, it will award scholarships forever  to benefit Breckenridge High School students in Mr. Van Haften’s memory. 

 

Scholarship Criteria

 
  • Must be a graduating senior of Breckenridge High School pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited college or university;
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
  • Consideration will be given to those demonstrating financial need;
  • Consideration will be given to the applicant’s service to church, school and community as well as to demonstrated moral character.

Two scholarships available for as much as $550 each.

Señora Kaufmann Memorial Scholarship

 
   

The Señora Kaufmann Memorial Scholarship was established in November 2020 by the family of Sally Kaufmann to honor her decades of service to teaching and continue her legacy in foreign language and education.  Señora Kaufmann’s passion for teaching Spanish and Hispanic culture, along with her special gift for connecting with her students and colleagues, made her a beloved educator.

Sally Kaufmann was dedicated to helping students further their education, achieve their goals, and literally explore the world.  She was a loyal confidant to countless students with whom she shared her wisdom and listened to their dreams. It is her family’s hope that the Señora Kaufmann Memorial Scholarship will assist Alma High School and other Gratiot County students pursue their passion in foreign language, travel, and international studies.
